The Location: Nature, Beach, Tranquility
The houses Marina, Marineta, Marinassa and Son Viquet are located in a typical rural area in the south of Majorca. The long agricultural tradition of the community of Campos, especially in stockbreeding, has formed the “expression” of the landscape, with small meadows and irrigated horticulture, thanks to the numerous watermills, which became a unique feature in the landscape.
Es Trenc - Salobrar
Only a few kilometers away is the nature reserve Es Trenc - Salobrar, one of the most important wetlands of the island, with an area of aprox. 1500ha, which includes the beach of Es Trenc, the dunes at its rear, the saltworks and a big part of the crop area.
Es Salobrar is formed by a number of artificially built ponds and floated zones, both used for the production of salt. The water comes from the streamlets Son Catlar and Son Xorc, but mostly from the sea.
It is a zone with higly ecological value, where different living entities meet. You can find a multitude of native plants and a large variety of waterfowl, spending the winter here, e.g. the flamingos. It was created a bird sanctuary thanks to the “ZEPA” (the spanish organisation for ornithology) and is an “Área Natural de Especial Importáncia” (ANEI) and through this protected, from development.
The beaches
The coast of the community of Campos is impressive by its crystal clear water and the fine white sand. To point out are these three beaches: Es Trenc, Ses Covetes and El Arenal de Sa Rápita.
Es Trenc is a beach of more then 3km length, with crystal clear water and fine white sand, the symbol of Majorca. It´s name (meaning “broken”), comes from the streamlet, which over time passing has built a natural barrier to evacuate rainwater. Because of this, when you look at the coast it seems that the landscape is interrupted (broken).
The beach of Ses Covetes is the continuation at the south of the beach Es Trenc, closed in on the other side by the beach of Sa Rápita, the smallest of the three.
El Arenal de Sa Rápita starts with the yachtclub of Sa Rápita and is the continuation of the beach Ses Covetes. It´s formed by the beach, the white sand dunes and a pine forrest.
Los Molinos
A large part of the mills which are located in the plane of Campos, are used for the drawing of water. With the help of windenergy water is drawn out of the ground and transported into a watertank, right next to the tower.
In the middle of the 20th century 557 working mills existed, plus the grainmills and many wells for watering, but, in the second half of the 20th century the mills had been abandoned, step by step, pushed back by modern technology.
Los varaderos
Oratorio de Sant Blai
The first church in the community of Campos, in gothic style, was built in the 13th century. During the 15th century many extensions were added. Next to the chapel you can find a beautiful garden with native flora, a cementery from the middle of the 17th century to the middle of the 18th century, until the town´s own graveyard was opened.
